I am really excited to share this particular newsletter with you because it delivers some truly valuable nuggets of information to kick your thought process into high gear, help uncover unique ways to put yourself ahead of your competitors and win.

In business today, strategy is key to winning and that takes a lot of planning on your part. When you’re up against a competitor, the best man will win and its your job to ensure that man is you. This is how I view the business world; if you strip everything material away, the only thing left is the people. So taking the ideology that people in business are the most important element, it makes sense that you would try to impress the people you want to do business with. It might sound easy but it actually takes a great deal of thought on your part.

I encourage you to start thinking and acting strategically with regards to “hard to achieve” situations so that you can realize your true potential and succeed in business.

As fate would have it, I got to share a 45-minute private limo ride with one of today’s most in-demand speakers and co-author of the best selling book franchise, Chicken Soup for the Soul. I like to call my encounter with Jack Canfield, “navigated fate” because I directed it to happen, with a little help from my network of friends. Successful encounters don’t just happen; we have to fabricate our own opportunities using creativity, strategy and some bold moves. This particular maneuver afforded me the chance to learn about Jack Canfield’s best-selling success principles first hand from the master himself.
My main interest when speaking with a successful flauntrepreneur is knowing the point in their life when that special “light bulb” moment occurred, that flash in time that revealed to them what their true calling was as it pertained to their career.

In Jack’s case, it was in his early twenties and it happened while attending University in Chicago. He was teaching a class of unmotivated black students who really had no desire to be there. Jack started telling them inspiring “rags to riches” stories of black people who consequently started out just like them and finished off becoming successful icons. What he witnessed when he started sharing these stories was a class of students that stood to attention with true interest. He realized at that moment that the magic ingredient in telling a story that would transform an individual’s thinking had to do with combining a truly inspiring tale about something his audience could identify with on a personal level.
Fast forward a few decades and 192 Chicken Soup for the Soul titles later, Jack Canfield has become one of the most successful authors in publishing history. His books are all based on the same valuable principle he learned in his twenties; telling inspiring stories readers can connect with on a deeply emotional level.

Timing a product to fill a void or need in the market is essential to the success of any new product.

Jack ranks having a partner as one of the driving forces behind his success and quotes, ”together, my partner and I were able to do the work of 5 men while I could have only done the work of one by myself.” He insists that having a relentless desire and passion for wanting to spread inspiring stories around the world was essential to his success and with 144 rejections from publishers not wanting to publish his first book, I would agree that those characteristics were key. “Timing a product to fill a void or need in the market is crucial to the success of any new product”, Jack added and at a time of war and economic recession, it didn’t hurt that the release of his books were timely with their inspiring messages of hope and promise.

the SecretBut even with all his success, the element that launched Jack from successful author to celebrity was his affiliation with The Secret – the book and DVD with the powerful “law of attraction” philosophy that inspired global change in the minds of millions. He quickly recognized the enormous impact The Secret had on his persona and responded to it by capitalizing on new business opportunities.

He wrote more motivational, self-help and business books, booked more seminars and workshops, embarked on more speaking tours and produced an infomercial, all of which is marketed using the equity in his name (his personal brand).

Jack expressed to me the importance of building one’s personal brand and thinks it’s essential to success, especially today where messages are so hard to make a lasting impact. He was quick to comment that, “you must sell yourself as the product today and really put yourself out there. You have to run your flag up the pole to let people know you’re there, especially when you have a message or product that you’re passionate about like I do”.

He believes his name has the power to propel any product to success. The true essence of a flauntrepreneur is to build a strong brand and leverage it to create wealth.

In the last few years of his heightened success, Jack added a marketing person to his team who is responsible to source out new business opportunities by expanding on the brand (that being Jack). He was quick to point out that his marketing person’s strengths are in areas like sourcing new and creative business opportunities where his are not and that is why he remains focused on doing what he is naturally great at; empowering people to achieve. The business lesson here is evident; retain associates who complement your weaknesses in order that your business can grow.

From Jack’s first paid endorsement promoting The Quality Inn to receiving a few thousand dollars in royalties from a pet food supplier in association with Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul to charging $35,000 a day for speaking engagements, it is clear that Jack has hit a new plateau in his career. He believes his name has the power to propel any product to success and with annual earnings of over $8 million dollars, I’d say he’s doing something right.

The true essence of a flauntrepreneur is to build a strong brand and leverage it to create wealth. Jack Canfield has done just that and then some.

I want to leave you with what Jack coins one of his most valuable success principles and a sentiment I believe whole-heartedly, “Have a passion in your heart, the rest will follow”.

You have to STAND OUT if you want to succeed in today’s business world and let’s face it, the business world can be tough, a dog eat dog world in fact. Individuals who are slightly more creative and can prove they have guts are the ones who will inevitably succeed. In keeping with that philosophy, it’s essential to think out-of-the-box and separate yourself from the crowd and in some cases that means pushing yourself and the envelope. Some call it guts, some call it strategy, I call it being a Flauntrepreneur. We’ve all had a challenge or two trying to secure a meeting with a big decision-maker or have agonized over getting a call back for a second interview for a job we so desperately wanted.

It’s at these crucial times in life that we have the ability to sway our chances of winning. With opportunities so important, why would we leave our ultimate destiny to chance? Ninety-nine percent of people just wait for fate to happen and when nothing happens, they chalk it up as being unlucky. I am here to tell you that you have to create your own luck in life.

Have you ever followed a CEO to a restaurant, sent in a person dressed up as a waiter (tuxedo & white gloves) to deliver your resume or proposal on a silver tray? Have you ever purchased hundreds of clever domain sites, each one with your resume on it to get an interview at Google? Have you ever crashed a CEO’s private party, snuck upstairs and left your resume on his dresser? Have you ever mailed 20 prospects a tooney ($2) with a note attached that read “I would appreciate just 10 minutes of your time to show you how I can make your life easier. If you are too busy, please use the $2 enclosed to buy yourself a cup of coffee on me”?

These ideas might sound a bit radical, over the top even but they have worked for those flauntrepreneurs who put themselves out there for a chance at winning. Wouldn’t you give it a shot if it meant getting what you so desperately wanted? It isn’t easy to get noticed or be remembered and it often requires bold moves, sometimes at great risk in order to get to the next level. Putting ourselves out there, for all to see and judge has to be one of the most difficult and uncomfortable things we could do but in order to succeed, sometimes, it’s simply what’s called for.

Many people have asked me what the boldest move I ever made was in business and when I revisit my career path, many come to mind but I would have to say that changing my name from Kymberley to Ky was one of the most bold moves I’ve ever made in an effort to be remembered. Did it work? Well, let me ask you this…how many Ky’s do you know?

Having a mentor is not a luxury but rather a necessity as you journey through life, learning, making mistakes and perfecting your craft along the way. A mentor is invaluable because he/she acts as a credible sounding board, teacher and coach while providing guidance and advice to a developing protégé. Mentoring relationships can be developed through formal organizations or informal peer relationships and there is no right or wrong way in this instance. In fact, many successful entrepreneurs and flauntrepreneurs find it useful to have both at the same time.

To get you started, identify an individual you hold in the highest regard, someone who has an impressive track record. This individual should possess all the characteristics you admire most. Then formulate a list of what you would like to learn from this person if you were given the chance to create your own wish list.

Most successful people are extremely busy and haven’t the time to deal with a shadowing mentee so in order to increase your chances of having them take you under their wing, try to become invaluable to them. This can easily be achieved by offering your services, being accessible and by aiming to please at all times. If you can make your mentor’s life easier, they will be truly grateful, make time for you and they will also want you around more often. Try to emulate them by seizing every opportunity to watch and learn their actions, reactions and decisions. Within time you’ll learn to mirror their ways and it will eventually become second nature to you to act like the personal brand you most admire. If you are fortunate enough to find a mentor using this template, your investment will for the most part, be limited to your time and service.

If you aren’t able to find a mentor on your own, there are several resources available to help you locate one.

Many industries have social network organizations that offer internal mentoring programs. Professional coaching services act as great advisors in all areas of your personal and business life but the investment may be costly and you really need to do your homework before choosing one. There are hundreds of coaches out there but I recommend you find one that takes the time up front to understand what you are hoping to accomplish with their services. Ask them for a ten minute consultation over the phone first and use that time as an opportunity to gather information about them, form an impression and learn of their accomplishments as well as their successes in coaching others. Once you’ve spoken to several, compare who you felt the deepest connection with and who best suits your needs. I know several business associates who use business coaches as advisors on a regular basis; in fact, having a coach today seems almost common practice.
